Week 15: November 25th and 27th

Good evening everyone, and thank you all for reading. This is my last blog post for my internship with the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse and Museum. I had an incredible time getting to work with Felipe and the rest of the staff there and I learned a lot about how museums operate and what a curator does all day. Over my time there I got the opportunity to do a lot of really cool things from getting to contribute to the design process of an exhibit to getting to conserve artifacts for the collection., I couldn't be happier with my experience there.

As far as this week's work goes however, I continued to work on digitizing the museum's VHS tape collection and their newsletter index. I continued to play and record the VHS tapes in the background while I worked on updating the newsletter index. This was a bit of a tedious task going through each individual newsletter to find the pertinent details to update the index, but it was still very interesting to see the history of the lighthouse quarter by quarter. I got to read about updates to the lighthouse's preservation plan, the construction of the administration building I was currently sitting in, and an abundance of new exhibits and guest speakers. So, although having to pull each newsletter out of its protective sleeve and flip through was slightly monotonous, I still found it be a very exciting experience.

Before I sign off I just wanted to extend my thanks to Felipe, Zach, and the rest of the staff at the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse. They were all very kind and I think we had a lot of fun getting to work on some of these projects from the last few months. I hope that I can continue to have a good working relationship with them going forward. Also, I, of course, want to thank Dr. French for all of his help and support with the application process for this internship. I don't think I could have done it without his guidance. Thank you for reading.
